Some women breastfeed without problems, some women struggle with breastfeeding, some escape it all together, but me I never had a problem with it… scratch that, nothing I couldn’t handle. In our society nowadays women are shame into breastfeeding, if you don’t breastfeed shame on you! How could you? Anyways I see it as a personal choice; breastfeeding is way too hard of a job to be force into doing it. Your heart got to be in the right place, especially if like me, you lack organizational skills. I had originally planned to breastfeed my first child for twelve month at least… we went through our share of the pain. At first we had to work on the latch on problem, she use to nibble instead of opening her mouth she would nibble in the tip of her lip. No need to say how much that would hurt. You know what they say REMEMBER: IF IT HURTS, IT ISN’T RIGHT!
That was enough for me to quit! Thank God for breastfeeding support group at the hospital and the nurse’s help we overcome the latch on problem. She was able to nurse without causing pain we were able to enjoy our little bonding time, she was nice and plum, I didn’t have to wash bottle. Every feeding time was a down time for me. No crying and I could sit and just care for her. A few weeks down the road something happen we caught Thrush if you don’t know (Thrush is a fungal infection that can form on your nipples or in your breast because it thrives on milk. The infection forms from an overgrowth of the candida organism. Candida usually exists in our bodies and is kept at healthy levels by the natural bacteria in our bodies. However, when the natural balance of bacteria is upset, candida can overgrow, causing an infection.) Boy does that hurt. We went back to the lactation nurse she confirm it was thrush we made a trip to the pediatrician for some Nyastatin. And that is that.
In spite of all the set backs breastfeeding my baby was fun and enjoyable. And knowing that she get to have a stronger immune system, be protected baby from gastrointestinal trouble, respiratory problems, and ear infections, keep her from developing allergies, some say it help he be smarter, have a well balance weight to top all that it help me lose weight ha! So what a little sore nipple?
I’m all for breastfeeding!
