Last week Google updated their ranking system, 2 of my sites went up but I’m not sure how, Since I haven’t been doing anything different, I’m retracing my steps to find out what went RIGHT. Google swears that ranking means nothing, and yet they are still ranking sites as long as they keep it around I’m gonna go say uhhh yep it means something! Not sure what, but it mean something. I’m set out to find out what it means, but I need your HELP.
A lot of SEO(Search Engine Optimization) gurus out there always say that the main way to get your website visible by Google and in good shape is to get a lots of back links, have optimized keyword yadi yadi yada but my experience has been quite different.
I maintain about 3 active sites including my blog and 3 not so active sites (Blogs I started on impulse and kinda lose interest). So I’m comparing my blog with StaycationDirectory (since they are about the same age) to see where is the magic.
My blog Has no keywords, no major keywords whatsoever. As you all know this blog is the rambling in my head, sometimes its technical, sometimes its diapers, sometime its sexy so I don’t write around keywords. As far as back links I got about 67 backs links mostly from of you guys (my fellow bloggers) I get a fairly amount of visitors which I consider good since this blog is not getting any kinda of advertisement I have no idea how people find me, hey somehow I’m visible somewhere.
On the other hands, StaycationDirectory have almost no back link, keywords… I guess staycation would be the keyword but its not really optimized for that word. I never really center around that, yet it is thriving in Google search and getting way more visitors than my blog ever had and still they both rank a 3 on Google ranking scale! So what gives?
Does this ranking thing really mean anything? or does content is what does the trick? or maybe tons of back links guarantee grace in Google eyes?
Every time I think I got a hang on this SEO stuff, something weird like that happen and leaves me baffled!

Since I started my online businesses some years ago I have encounter many challenges. I have learned so much through my trials and errors. This past year was the first time I have caught a break in all my ventures. I have been blessed with success in my businesses, it wasn’t easy but I’m getting there. I feel like God had put in my heart to share a few pointers with my fellow mom entrepreneurs and working mom once in while, kind of soothe the learning curve for them. Because I can tell you it is rough! You might quit before you even started. If you are just getting started here are a few guidelines to build user loyalty to you site and keep them coming back for more hence drive high traffic to your website.
1 – Content is key
First of all what do you have to offer? If you are blogging, selling a product, selling a service or whatever mean you are offering on your website is it valuable? Would you read your own blog? Would you use your own product or service? Chances are if you provide valuable content to your users they not only will keep coming back, they will refer you to their friends and their friends to their friends and so on. That is how you expand through word of mouth. How many times you go to the mall and find that they are having a good sale, do you not call your girlfriends and tell them about? I bought a Combi double stroller for my daughters just because a lady at the store had one and she told me that if was the best double stroller around. I later find out that I could have shop around some more, but that is not the point. They got my business because they were valuable to somebody so she testify in their favor. This is true for a website good content=high traffic.
2 – Scratch that.. Original content is key
Last time in [How to make money from your website]
I talk about niche, is your content, product, service original? You can’t go sell burgers in front of a McDonald. That is just plain stupid, unless your burgers are some finger licking, slap your mama kind of burger that people just can’t pass. I’m not saying to run away from the competition, because there’s nothing new under the sun what ever you can come up with someone else somewhere had probably already done it. I’m saying to make sure that your version has something original. In one of my breastfeeding classes I used to go to, I once met a mom who makes bibs. Are bibs a new concept? No but her bibs had these all around feel to it that would caught the baby’s slabs even if the baby was lying down. I thought that was very clever and all the moms agree that regular bibs don’t give you that feature. All the moms bought it including me. My point is although bibs are sold in almost every baby store around, hers was original. That goes also for a website although there are millions of websites out there; yours can still be something that people need and attract high traffic to your website.
3 – Have a heart for people
Be mindful of people, if you care about people they will care about you. It’s the golden rule Do to others as you would have them do to you. Would you keep going back to your site if it wasn’t yours? Umh.. That’s all I’m going to say.
Why do you want high traffic to your website anyway? What does more traffic mean to you? Does more traffic just mean more money or does it mean you get to serve more people? What is your primary motive? Focus on the people.
4 – Keep money in its proper place.
Don’t be greedy. Just focus on genuinely helping people and the rest will take care of itself.
Anyway Building a high-traffic website can be very challenging ugh! I know. These words of advice just sort of get your foot wet – keep learning. Most the of the time you will learn through your trial and errors, if you lucky you get to learn from someone else’s mistakes.
I guess you are lucky
