Although my kids are three and 19 months, we make sure dinner is spent together at the table every evening.
I'm visiting from MBC and wanted to stop by, say Hello and show my support! :)

we eat dinner at 9pm! it crazy late. by then the girl already ate and pretty much just play in their food, but we still make a point to sit down for a few minute even if we are just eating KFC. we have a lotta fun at the table and the girls are learning I even master "the look" when my 2yr old start to throw food on the floor i give the look and she stops, last night at church she was doing something I gave her "the look" and she knew to stop! she learn the look at the TABLE! I remember when my mom use to give me look in public and I would know what she mean and straighten. Its so embarrassing having to yell at your kids in public...
Hopefully all our hard work paid off this year... we can achieve time freedom (Claiming it!) so we can eat a little earlier. it is great that you guys are trying keep it up!

I too remember listening to this message. Afterwards I made a commitment to sit with my son even though it can be difficult. What I have found is that he shares his day with me in-depth instead of the quick response I receive on the drive home. What I am now working on is training myself to remain seated if I finish eating before he does. As a single mom there is so much to accomplish that I have found myself wanting to eat and go on to the next task. Thanks for reminding me how valuable eating at the dinner table is to families.

So my hubby and I was talking about this the other day. We thought it would be too late in the evening by the time everyone was home. But, you have given me inspiration that IT CAN be done. I am really going to have to give this a try.

I saw this stouffers commercial that also touches the subject. Kids are more likely to talk when at the dinner table, Kids who eat family dinner were more likely to do well in school, avoid drugs, suicides, and other crazy stuff.

I try to have us sit down at dinner at least 4 days a week. I have preteens but I try to make dinner fun. Usually weekly, I will create a set of questions on index cards and each person will put 2-3 each night at dinner as conversation topics. They usually range from who do you play with at school, to what do you want to do on spring break to a variety of issues. i have found they are also a great way to not only have great dinner conversation but to get a real sense of what's happening in the lives of your family members that you may not get from a simple how did your day go.

I need to put that one into practice more often. The children eat together but, I'm not always sitting down with them. Hubby is usually in the living room watching a movie & eating dinner on a tray table. I have a teen, two tweens and a toddler and they enjoy eating together. We need to start sitting down with them.
